Choose what you want to change
A section is a block such as Experience or Education. Its background is separate from the section heading, the individual entries inside it and the column behind it. Check which area you want to style before changing a colour.
Change the section background
- Open your CV in the editor and select the section you want to change.
- Use the section's palette button, labelled Section Appearance settings.
- Choose the Section tab, then Spacing & Background.
- If the style is inherited, choose Custom Override. In Background Color, choose a colour from the palette.
- Check the section in the preview, including whether its text is still easy to read.

Other backgrounds
- Use Item Spacing & Background for the individual entries inside a section.
- Use the Header tab for the section heading's appearance.
- Use column appearance settings to change the area behind several sections in the same column.
Changing a palette colour can affect other elements using that colour. For a local change, first check the section's own background setting.
On a phone
- Tap the section in the preview to open its entries.
- Tap Appearance in the bottom toolbar.
- In the Section tab, open Spacing & Background and select Custom Override if needed.
- Choose Background Color, then use Back to return through the panels and inspect the preview.

If the result is unexpected
Check that you changed the section rather than its header or items. An inherited style may come from a preset or template. Use Undo if you want to return to the previous appearance.
